Well...
I managed to get around the 800742145 erro code, and it looked like that everything was ready to go. During the Second last reboot, it loaded the black screen witht he Windows Vista Beta info inb the bottom right corner of the screen. Just above that, a bar of mangled color (which i am assuming was the attempt at a graphics draw). It continued back into the installer, continued running under the Completed Upgrade List Item, then rebooted again. Back into installer, ran a bit longer, then rebooted. THen system decided to inform me that the install has failed and it rolls back to Win Xp
I do have the all of the log files in a compressed folder if someone wants to investigate the cause.
Spytem Specs Proc: Athalon XP 1700+ MB: MSI KT4V Ram: 1 GB of PC 3200 Video: 128mb Geforce FX 5200 (Which Nvidia certifies as being ready) HD: Maxtor ATA/133 80 GB Drive(trying to install to a 70 GB partition on the drive)

Runnign Vista x86 Upgrade Install from XP SP2
THe only other thing that seemed odd, is that the installer reported that my Network Card is not directly compatable with Vista, but i could download the drvier after the fact from Windows Update.
I am using a Linksys LNE100TX network card.

Im using a Linksys LNE100TX card on my Vista install (I did a full install, not upgrade) I never got a message like that. As for your problem I hear you should do a full install and wipe everything on the disc. Don't upgrade. Let me know what happens.

Hey there
When i tried doing the full install from a wiped drive, it still reported an issue with the Card.
I tried doing the upgrade without the card, and it seems to be failing when it loading the drivers during the final portion of the install still

Yes
It is always after the second reboot during the Completing upgrade step, or during the final portion of the clean install.
Black Screen... bar of mangled graphic at bottom of screen above the Vista Beta info in the bottom right corner. if it is doing an upgrade, it rolls back to XP SP2, Clean install i have to format and restart as it cant recover the install

Did you try taking the disc out when its done copying files after the reboot. I've seen discs screw up if they get left in the drive and get in the way of something. Maybe even the install... "Chris.Heywood" wrote:

I had to do that on one machine when Setup was counting down to reboot or the installer would hang. Then I had to replace the dvd so Setup had access to it. Annoying, but it worked.

Also let me know what kind of video card you got. Maybe that is messing with the installation. You said there were mangled graphics, could be a sign.
